Our third Bigas Luna Tribute event of 2022 took place at the Cinematheque in Cleveland, Ohio, part of the Cleveland Institute of Art. The event showcased the full ‘Iberian Portraits’ in 35mm with English subtitles over 3 weekends this June.
The programme included short video presentations by Bigas Luna specialist Santiago Fouz Hernández (Durham University) and four screenings in total.
Jamón jamón (1992), starring four-times Academy Award nominees and winners Javier Bardem and Penélope Cruz in their first film in a leading role. This year marks the 30th anniversary of this film, one of Bigas Luna’s most internationally renown works.

Saturday June 11th (5pm) and Sunday June 12th (8.25pm) – Jamón jamón (1992). Starring Penélope Cruz, Javier Bardem and Jordi Mollà.
Saturday June 18th (7.10pm) Huevos de oro / Golden Balls (1992). Starring Javier Bardem, Maribel Verdú and Benicio del Toro.
Saturday June 25th (5pm) La teta y la luna/The tit and the Moon (1993). Starring Mathilda May, Miguel Poveda and Biel Durán.
