Poster_Man_2019_jpegThe main events of the Bigas Luna Tribute Manchester took place in late March 2019, with an art exhibition running until April 12th. The event was a collaboration with the long-established ¡Viva! Spanish and Latin American Film Festival (that celebrated its 25th anniversary during this edition) at HOME Manchester, and the Instituto Cervantes Manchester. HOME screened the entire ‘Iberian Portraits’ trilogy in 35mm, with introductory presentations and a Q&A session with Bigas Luna specialists.  A cava reception followed the sold-out screening of Jamón, jamón (1992). The Instituto Cervantes hosted the first UK screening of the posthumous documentary BigasxBigas (2017) – including a Q&A with its co-director Santiago Garrido Rúa – and the video-art exhibition ‘Barbaric Comedies‘, inspired by Valle-Inclán. Fittingly, the festival’s theme this year was ‘serious fun’ and the esperpento. A breakdown of the full programme follows below.
