UnknownWe are delighted to announce the BIGAS LUNA TRIBUTE GENOA, our first in Italy, a collaboration with  the Poevisioni programme of the  Genoa International Poetry Festival, Parole Spalancate, from May 24th through to June 22nd. We are grateful to the Embassy of Spain in Italy, the Instituto Cervantes Milano, Regione Liguria, Comune Genova, Palazzo Ducale and the Spanish Ministry of Culture and Sport for their support. 

The Bigas Luna Tribute Genoa will include six film screenings, an art exhibition, a book exhibit, and a symposium. The special guest will be Italian actress Anna Galiena, who played the role of Carmen in Jamón jamón (1992).

The Club Amici del Cinema (Europa Cinemas, Via Carlo Rolando, 15, 16151 Genova) will host five film screenings, starting on May 24th with Anguish/L’Angoscia (1987) and Bilbao/La chiamavano Bilbao (1978) at at 6pm and 7.30pm respectively. Caniche (1979) and Huevos de oro/Uova d’oro (1993) will be screened on May 30th at the same times, while La teta y la luna (1994) will be shown on June 6th at 6pm. The films will be introduced by Maurizio Fantoni Minella, author of Bigas Luna (2001) and director of Poevisioni.

The mostra bibliografica sull’erotismo nel cinema, il cinema spagnolo e il cinema di Bigas Luna, a book exhibit about erotic cinema in Spain and the cinema of Bigas Luna will open on June 6th at 4pm at the Biblioteca Universitaria (Via Balbi, 40, 16126 Genova), the main library of Genoa University, with an introduction by Marco Berisso.

The exhibition ‘Bigas Luna: A Fior di pelle and Lactatios’ curated by Betty Bigas opens at the Palazio Ducale (Piazza Matteotti 9 – 16123 Genova), Sala Dogana, on June 7th at 11am with an introduction by the curator and a small reception. The show will stay open through to June 22nd

The Bigas Luna symposium will take place from 5pm also on June 7th in the Sala Storia Patria in the Palazzo Ducale with presentations by Anna Galiena, about her experience in Jamón jamón, Maurizio Fantoni Minnella, on the early work of Bigas Luna, Santiago Fouz Hernández (Durham University) on the ‘Iberian Portraits’ trilogy and Gabriele Rigola (Università di Genova) on Bambola (1996).

The Genoa events will culminate with a screening of Jamón jamón/Prosciutto prosciutto (1992) on June 8that 6pm in the Sala del Minor Consiglio in the Palazzo Ducale. It will include a round table discussion with Anna Galiena, Gabriele Rigola, Santiago Fouz Hernández and Maurizio Fantoni Minnella.

By the end of this year, the Bigas Luna Tribute will have visited 10 countries and 26 cities around the world, including San Francisco, Barcelona, Mexico City, Sydney, Brisbane, San José, New York, Los Angeles and London. New events in Rio de Janeiro and Brasilia will be announced later this year. All our events this year 2024 are sponsored by the Spanish Ministry of Culture and Sports.
